Gerrard Okome, a popular ice vendor, and once an employed graduate teacher has been the talk of town in Kisiani for a while, after his job was interjected 7-years ago.
The Teachers Service Commission halted his job after he fell out with one of the top insurance companies in the country.
A fellow teacher revealed that the ice vendor had taken an insurance cover on his child before he later claimed compensation in 2010 after tricking the company that his son was dead.
A secret investigation by the company, however, established that the death claims were just fairy tales as the mother of the child wasn't even aware.
An interview with one of his cousins revealed that the teacher had also borrowed a Sh1.3 million loan which had become the heart of the matter.
“He had taken a loan which was dragging him backward. He lied to the insurance company that his son was dead. The mother had no idea. She told the company assessors that the son was alive,” he said.
The teacher has been waiting for communication from TSC but nothing has been forthcoming.
To keep his life going, he has been forced into the ice vending business since 2014.
