Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said that President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to introduce new Sh1000 notes will help in the war against graft.
The county boss, who has been on the forefront in advocating for lifestyle audit, said that Uhuru deserves credit for the move. He also said that he is fully behind the war to end massive runaway graft"Recalling of Sh1,000 notes will give thieves sleepless nights. I congratulate President Uhuru Kenyatta for the unveiling of the new bank notes but even more for the October deadline of doing away with the current Ksh. 1,000 notes," he tweeted on Sunday.
The county boss, however, said that all the notes people are keeping in their homes are not stolen. He reminded those affected to take action in line with the law to avoid facing losses.
"We must acknowledge some people keep legally obtained cash instead of banking it and they should be allowed to change what they have to the new bills. It is not illegal to keep cash. Wananchi should not be forced to bank their money,"he added.
President Kenyatta, who is completing his second and final term in office, launched the new notes on Saturday during Madaraka Day Celebrations in Narok.
