Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen now says the partnership between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga is the worst political fraud ever witnessed in the country since independence.
During the first anniversary of the Handshake on Saturday, Raila denied claims that he is using the handshake to campaign ahead of 2022, adding that he's only interested with his legacy and that of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
But the Senate Majority Leader has accused the Head of State and Mr Odinga of using their partnership to undermine Deputy President William Ruto, insisting that the ongoing fight against graft is a wider plot to dent Ruto's 2022 chances.
"Handshake is the worst political fraud ever witnessed in this country. It’s being used as a scheme to fight one individual together with the charade called fight against corruption. It’s a shame," he wrote on Twitter.
And city lawyer Nelson Havi says the ongoing political duels could escalate further, saying that Ruto could soon join his allies to openly question Uhuru's loyalty and his intentions ahead of 2022.
"I foresee DP William Ruto coming out to fight from the frontline in the coming weeks. There will be casualties. I would not underestimate him. He is not sober 24/7 out by chance," he says.
For the second time in as many days on Saturday, DP William Ruto castigated the fight against graft, insisting that it targets his political ambitions, a move that could sound a warning to Uhuru.
