The police boss who was in the county on Friday noted that only nine criminal cases have been reported in the area in the last few weeks, proof that the law enforcers are doing a great job.

Of the nine, he added, six are already in court, terming it a result of increased police patrols.

“The region is peaceful and the police have been able to contain the few incidences of crime reported. Of the nine cases, six are already in court,” he is quoted by the Sunday Standard.

This, however, is in contravention to views by area activists, who are alleging that criminal cases are being reported on a daily basis.

According to Kisumu City Residents Association Chair Audi Ogada, the criminal gangs harassing residents seems to be related, calling upon the police to step out and curb the same.

Claiming that harassments by armed gangs remain intact, they pointed out Mamboleo, Lolwe, Riat and Migosi as the worst hit areas.

“Every time an incident is reported, the descriptions of the gang seem to be the same. Most victims talk of either three or two people on a motorbike, and having firearm.

"The police must get its intelligence right to save the people," he is quoted.

They as well tried to serve him a petition with the statistics of some of the criminal cases in the area, but in vain.
