President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to relieve Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri his duties continues to elicit mixed reactions from different factions.
A section of residents from Kirinyaga County have praised the head of state for cracking the whip on what they believe are rogue officials in the government.
Led by their Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri, the residents said that Uhuru’s move comes at the right time.
Ndambiri argued that Kiunjuri had proven beyond doubt that he is not the ideal candidate for the job despite having been given the position.
He accused him of engaging in politics at the expense of development. He made the remarks on Tuesday after visiting Riandira village where locusts were allegedly sighted.
“We have been experiencing problems with people running around seeking leadership positions for 2022 instead of working as required, we need somebody who can help us on matters of agriculture,” Ndambiri said.
He also exuded confidence that former Trade CS Peter Munya is a better replacement for Kiunjuri, adding that he is a performer.
In his speech, Kiunjuri extended his gratitude to the head of state for the appointment. He, however, said that he had done nothing wrong to warrant his sacking.
