A policeman is said to have fallen and died at a factory owned by embattled businessman Humphrey Kariuki in Thika, Kiambu County.
The officer, Administration Police Constable Samuel Mwaura was manning the Africa Spirits factory which has since been closed down and died on the spot on Saturday night.
Details indicate that he was on his way up a metal spiral staircase to have a better view of the plant before he slipped and fell to his death.
The incident was confirmed by Central Region Police Boss Judy Lamet who said that the officer was announced dead on arrival at the Thika Level Five Hospital.
She said that the deceased cut his back of the head.
“You know the factory is closed because it is regarded as a crime scene and the officer was among those manning it. Preliminary reports show he slid and fell from a staircase of a mast he was climbing,” she said on Tuesday.
Kariuki has been accused of failing to remit Sh3 billion in taxes, while the police also claimed that they nabbed fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps in the factory.
Also found was 312 litres of illicit liquor and ethanol suspected to have been smuggled into the factory.
