Emerging details indicate that some top state officials from Mt Kenya are planning a series of meetings in the region to show their support for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The same comes amid claims of a widening rift between Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto, which has seen some politicians from the region defy Uhuru in Ruto's favour.
But it has emerged that a series of three meetings are being planned and are set to be held in Meru and Nyeri counties as a show of support for Uhuru's government.
According to some of the MPs who have since been invited, and claim they have been notified through text messages, the actual venues of the gatherings are yet to be disclosed.
They told the Standard on Thursday that the meetings have been disguised as gatherings to address issues affecting area residents, which Uhuru seems to have since confirmed.
Speaking during the launch of the Bidco Industrial Park in Ruiru, Kiambu, Uhuru announced plans of visiting the region, where he will launch a number of projects.
Initial reports indicated that he would visit the region alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to publicize their 2018 truce, plans that are yet to materialize.
Asked about the said meetings being planned, one of the officials at the centre of it confirmed that they are indeed there, but turned down attempts to give more information.
“Who is asking about the meeting? Is it wrong to meet? Let me find out more about the meeting then I’ll let you know," he told the paper.
