Embu Governor Martin Wambora met veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday.
The two met at Raila's Capitol Hill office in the Nairobi.
"H.E. @RailaOdinga today at Capitol Hill Square held a meeting with Embu Governor Martin Wambora who paid him a courtesy call," the tweet read.
It was not immediately clear what the agenda of the meeting was.
The Embu Governor has survived spirited attempts by Embu MCAs to oust him.
A section of social media users chose to view the meeting in political terms, seeing it as further evidence that the Mt Kenya region is softening its stance towards the veteran opposition leader.
Since the handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta last year in March, Raila has hosted a number of leaders from Central Kenya.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru triggered a debate on social media when she reportedly said that Mt Kenya was open to a Raila presidency.
Scores of the leaders from the region have thrown their weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
However, there has been strong opposition from Central Kenya from a section of leaders in support of Deputy President Dr William Ruto's presidential ambitions.
