Speaking during an exclusive interview with Capital FM,  Boinnet said that his team is committed to protecting nurses who are ready to obey a directive from the Head of State as the strike bites. This comes after Uhuru ordered all nurses to report to work by 8 am on Friday.

“We will not allow people not willing to work to disrupt those who are ready to go back to work as per the president’s directive,” the IG warned during the interview.

President Kenyatta had warned nurses against defying court orders after the strike was declared unlawful.

The declaration came hours after Uhuru met Council of Governors (CoG) representatives led by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya at State House.

Nurses have, however, remained firm on their earlier stand.

Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary General Seth Panyako has urged the medics not to change their stand until their grievances are addressed.

The government has since made an about-turn on the strike after declaring that nurses who have not reported to work will not be fired as promised earlier.
