The Christmas festivities are once again right here with us.

This, to many, means celebrations and possibly reunion with family members in the village.

If you happen to land in this category, and you are planning to head back to 'gishagi' or 'dala' as my tribesmen call it, here are some things you should consider;

 1. Remember village shop owners

This is the time when bus and matatu carriers are more congested than the inside, with travellers taking as much as they can with them to the villages.

However, remember only to carry what you cannot find in the village, do not import bales of wheat flour and cooking fat to 'reserve', it is demoralising to village shop owners.

Just like President Uhuru Kenyatta's 'Buy Kenya Build Kenya' initiative, promote your own people back in the village.

Remember that these are the same guys who give your parents stuff on credit when you delay to send them money.

Do not give them a reason to hit back.

2. Observe travelling manners, don't overeat

Some of us have great appetites and can gobble up as much food as possible within the shortest time, especially while we are on transit, a rather boring situation.

Once aboard that 'Nyaugenya Bus' on your way to 'Siaya Kababa', only eat what you can handle.

Otherwise, you will end up forcing the driver to make stopovers at each and every bushy place along the way.

If you have to eat, its advisable to eat as little as possible or snacks like biscuits and cakes.

A combination of samosas, groundnuts, sausages and soda will only make you a villain in the bus as you delay fellow travellers while retreating to the bushes.

3. Mothers, book enough seats for your children

Ladies, as you travel with all your children to see their grandparents in the village, remember to do it decently.

Book enough seats to avoid troubling people in the vehicle to move aside to give your children sitting space.

Also, these people want to travel home in peace, not amid noises of your crying babies.

Carry their feeding bottles with you, complete with enough milk and porridge to bribe them when they decide to wail.

Otherwise, you might end up being kicked out of the bus courtesy of their noise.#MyLifestyle #hivisasaoriginal #Happyholidays
