Former Kibwezi West MP Kalembe Ndile has hit out at the opposition leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka accusing them of betraying their supporters.
Kalembe alleged that Raila and Kalonzo have failed in their opposition roles and should quit politics and retire.
Ndile said the former Prime Minister failed Kenyans when they needed him most.
According to him, Raila and Kalonzo’s move to support the controversial Finance Bill 2018 that is now law was a betrayal of the highest order to their loyal supporters.
Ndile said the country does not have active opposition hence Kenyans should prepare for tough times ahead.
“Opposition plays a critical role in keeping the government on toes especially on issues facing common Kenyans, it is unfortunate that people who are supposed to be doing the watchdog role are siding with the government itself,” Ndile said.
He addressed the press at Mlolongo in Machakos County on Tuesday.
Ndile said the Finance Bill that imposes 8% VAT on fuel and other products is too bad for common Kenyans.
He said unless the opposition takes its roles seriously, the country is headed for doom in terms of Kenyans rights and interests.
“The March 9 handshake was good but it did not mean that Raila and his people should abandon their roles,” Ndile said.
The Finance Bill 2018 continues to elicit sharp reactions with a section of MPs threatening to challenge it in court.
Matungulu MP Stephen Mule has threatened to take the matter to court if an impeachment plan against National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and Garissa Township Aden Duale flops.
Raila and Kalonzo are among top leaders who endorsed the Finance Bill 2018.
