The Nyayo Chambers survivors still live with bitter memories of the torture they had to go through during the second liberation and fight for multiparty.
One of the survivors is Kenyan Marxist and university lecturer Maina wa Kinyatti who was considered the spearhead of the Mau Mau research leading to his detention at the Nyayo chambers.
During his detention, he was not allowed to see his family and at one point, Mr. Wilson Nduati Njoroge, a prison guard was badly brutalized for allowing him to shake hands with his wife.
Kinyatti was later released after serving six and a half years in detention after which he fled to Tanzania where he was forced to apply for political asylum in the United States.
The university lecturer is an author of many books and poems that reflects to the pre and post-colonial suffering of Kenyans.
He is known as the author of the Agikuyu and some of his books includes The Dedan Kimathi Papers, Mau Mau patriotic Songs, History of Resistance in Kenya among other must-read books for any Kenyan patriotic.
Unfortunately, he is one of the unsung heroes whose fight for the liberation of our country has never been awarded nor acknowledged.
