Already a quarantine has been declared across the county.

According to the county Director of Veterinary Services Dr Philip Biamah, the vaccination exercise will go on until later in March.

"We are doing a lot of disease control and trying to also trace and provide the necessary effective surveillance for our residents and North Rift region at large," said Biamah in Eldoret on Friday.

“To this effect, we have closed down all the markets and movement of animals to allow officers to do a mass vaccination around the County in order to control as well as eradicate this disease,” he added.

Biamah further noted that FMD is one of the major trans-boundary animal diseases that impact negatively on trade in livestock and livestock products in the North region.

He also revealed that as a devolved unit, they are working with North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) counties to ensure vaccination regimes are being put in place to prevent the disease and asked residents to take their animals for vaccination to prevent them from being affected by the disease.
