But one day, the two politicians bitterly differed over the appointment of a Director at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The two differed in 2011 when Odinga was the Prime Minister, while the Kisumu Governor was the Minister for Medical Services in the grand coalition government under former President Mwai Kibaki.

While on a tour of Uasin Gishu County, Odinga said that Nyong'o should give Professor Harun Mengech an appointment letter and ensure that he starts working as MTRH’s Director with immediate effect.

However, Nyong'o did not act on Odinga’s directive. He instead said that he would not bow to any pressure in line of his duties.

"I must follow the regulations of State Corporations, which stipulate that the hospital's board must be part of the recruitment exercise to make it competitive," he said then.

“Those who want to demonstrate over the issue can go ahead and do so. It is their right, but the law has to be adhered to,” Nyong’o added.
