Odhiambo died at the Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with what has been termed as cardiac ailment.

Many Kenyans knew him during his time as the Youth Fund boss between 2013 and 2016, but most Kenyan musicians know him as an accomplished musician and producer.

During the 1980’s and 1990’s, he played with Mombasa based Safari Band and the Spartans.

During his time with Safari Band, they recorded and released an all time best selling album titled Mambo Jambo which contained all time hits such as Jambo Bwana and Malaika.

Odhiambo was born in Asembo, Siaya County.

He went to the prestigious St Mary’s High School in Nairobi where President Uhuru Kenyatta was one of his classmates and close buddies.

The two remained close even after leaving School.

“I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of my friend Bruce Odhiambo, following his death. Bruce shared his God given talents through philanthropy and many benefited from his generosity. May God give his family the strength to bear this loss,” reads the Head of State’s condolence message.

At the time of his death, Odhiambo was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of recording label Johari Clef audio-visual production studio.
