There is no doubt that Deputy President William Ruto is the frontrunner in the 2022 presidential race.
DP Ruto is looking forward to succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta whose term is coming to an end and according to the agreement between the former URP and TNA parties which merged to form the Jubilee party in 2013, William Ruto is next candidate for the party.
Politics still remains a ‘dirty’ game and things might change. DP's journey to State House might take a U-turn and his political ambitions may not come true.
However, here are two factors will guarantee DP Ruto victory in the 2022 general elections;
The support of Mt. Kenya region
DP Ruto and his allies believe that they delivered the votes of Rift Valley to President Uhuru in 2013 and 2017. This majorly contributed to Uhuru’s victory in both elections and they expect the same from the Mt Kenya region in the coming 2022 elections. Some of the leaders from the region led by Nyeri Town MP Ngujiri Wambugu have declared that they do not owe DP Ruto any political debt and that they will be free to make their own choice. This means that Ruto will have to do more to win the hearts of Mt Kenya residents which make a good percentage of voters in the country. If this region will rally behind Ruto, then he will definitely win the race.
An absence of Raila Odinga
Raila Odinga is the only threat to William Ruto’s candidacy. The former Prime Minister is much experienced in politics than Ruto. He is also popular in all parts of the country with strong and influencing political allies. Raila has not openly declared his presidential bid for 2022 and his absence in the ballot will automatically grant the DP victory.
