She described being a mother as being selfless and making sacrifices to see things work for the better, noting that there is much more to a woman than just giving birth.

"Being a mother means more than just giving birth to a new life. It's about sacrifice and selfless dedication," said Ngilu during the World's Mother's Day on Sunday.

Ngilu captioned her post on Facebook with her grandchildren.

She added that "Being a mother remains my biggest source of Joy and fulfilment. Happy Mother's Day to everyone who has been a mother to anyone."

Other Kenyans from all walks of life celebrated this day too with their families, thanking their mothers for being by their side, through thick and thin as they grew up.

Mother's Day is an annual celebration honouring all mothers within the society for the role they play in not only raising children but making the world a better place.

The modern mother's day traces its roots back in the US. Today, it is celebrated on various days in different parts of the world mostly during the months of March and May.

More than 40 countries celebrate the big day.
