The battle to succeed former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka as the Kamba political kingpin is slowly playing out in Ukambani.
A section of Ukambani politicians is lining themselves to take up the community’s leadership mantle from Kalonzo who has his eyes fixed on the presidential seat in 2022.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, the race to succeed Kalonzo as Kamba political kingpin will attract top and famous politicians.
The analyst, however, notes that former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama could be the man to walk into Kalonzo’s political shoes when it comes to Ukambani leadership.
Ngure argues that Muthama has what it takes to politically lead and provide direction to the Kamba community.
He notes that the former Senator is more aggressive compared to other Kamba politicians.
“Majority of Kambas listen more to Muthama than any other politician in the region,” he said.
The analyst further observes that Muthama is a political strategist who appeals to politicians from other divides.
Ngure notes that the former legislator is resourceful and can champion the interests of the Kamba community if he succeeds Kalonzo Musyoka.
Muthama has remained vocal on key issues despite not having contested for any elective seat in the August 8, 2017, general election.
He recently shocked Wiper party supporters when he questioned and criticized Kalonzo’s ‘mtu wa mkono’ remark (errand boy).
The ex-senator, a close confidant of Kalonzo questioned the former VP’s seriousness in contesting for the presidential seat in 2022.
He claimed that Kalonzo is not serious in vying for the presidency in 2022.
There are claims that the former Senator who is a critic of Governor Alfred Mutua could vie for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2022.
