Ngilu said the reforms are needed before the much anticipated 2022 elections.

According to Ngilu, it is pointless to champion unity and reconciliation without tackling electoral injustices.

The Kitui governor told the Building Bridges committee to give electoral reforms a priority.

Speaking during a public forum at Kitui Multi-Purpose Training Institute on Wednesday, Ngilu asked the Building Bridges Committee to look into the root cause of electoral fraud and injustices and provide solutions.

“We need answers to the cause of electoral fraud witnessed in 2007, 2013 and even the 2017 general election,” Ngilu said.

She claimed that the three general elections were not free and fair.

Ngilu said Kenyans are concerned on the slow pace of reforms.

The NARC governor asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to include electoral reforms as part of his 2022 legacy.

The Building Bridges Committee co-chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and his Busia counterpart Amos Wako was formed after the famous March 9 handshake between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

The committee is drafting proposals on various issues among them unity, reconciliation, governance and inclusivity.

It is currently conducting forums across the country to get Kenyans' views.
