Sonko who was then the Nairobi senator said he was not interested in the Machakos gubernatorial race after rumors went round that he would vie for the seat in 2017 polls.

The politician referred to Mutua as the "best choice" for the people of Machakos.

"I want to say No and thank you to them. I have no interest in Machakos and I am happy with what Mutua is doing," Sonko said.

Speaking in Machakos town, Sonko said he was in Jubilee to stay and his interest was in Nairobi County.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka wanted Sonko to replace Mutua after the Wiper leader and Mutua became political enemies because of Mutua' s endless support for Jubilee.

Kalonzo publicly invited sonko during a political rally to join Wiper party and vie for the Machakos gubernatorial seat.

Sonko rubbished claims that he was dumping Jubilee to join Wiper and termed the accusations as a tactic by political competitors to tarnish his name and appear as if he was leaving Jubilee.

Sonko later contested for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee party ticket and won.
