Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Simba Arati has said that he is not a missionary to oppose colleagues' push for house allowances.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview at Egesa FM, the vocal lawmaker maintained that MPs deserve house allowances among other allowances to enable them to effectively execute their roles.
"I'm not a missionary to oppose my colleagues' from pushing for allowances. I was elected to serve my people and therefore I am entitled to get allowances so that I can be able to deliver to the people," said Arati.
The MP who doubles up as the Gusii community spokesman said politics should not be dragged into the MPs' allowances push arguing that their counterparts in South Africa, Rwanda and United Kingdom (UK) also get good pay.
Arati also noted that legislators deserve to live a good lifestyle failure to which funds in the NG-CDF kitty will be misused.
"Some MPs have been misusing public funds because of the poor pay. It is high time those opposed to MPs getting allowances accepted and moved on because after all MPs are human beings who should live in good houses and have families to provide for," he noted while vowing to continue pushing for MPs to get allowances.
He dismissed the mentality that MPs are greedy.
