Two nominated female Members of County Assembly in Kisii County have protested over the increased cases of teenage pregnancies in the region.
Nominated MCAs Josephine Ombati and Beatrice Mong'ina while speaking on Wednesday after attending assembly sittings claimed that the rate at which school-going girls are dropping out of school due to early pregnancies is high.
"It is worrying that Kisii county is number three countrywide among the counties where teenage pregnancies have been reported. Parents, local chiefs and police officers must wake up to ensure men impregnating school going girls are arrested and taken to court to face the law," said Ms Ombati.
Ms Ombati appealed to the county government to put in place measure to curb early pregnancies.
On her part, Beatrice argued that in future there will be no educated girls in the county.
"The county government through the Department of Youths and Culture should be at the front line sensitizing young girls on the dangers of becoming mothers at a tender age," noted Beatrice.
She further urged church leaders, teachers and women groups to intervene to stop teenage pregnancies.
Beatrice warned men chasing young girls for love saying the law will not spare men who turn school girls to be their wives.
