Residents of Tiaty in Baringo County on Friday had a special treat after a Chinese company donated beer to them alongside foodstuffs.
The region is one of the many in about 13 counties which are grappling with hunger.
Consequently, the residents came out in large numbers following calls by Ghuanshan International Mining Company to avail themselves to receive relief food.
However, the exercise that was held at the Katikit Mixed Boarding Primary School took a dramatic turn after residents learnt that there were 20 cartons of canned beer.
The company director, Khan Ke said that they decided to provide beer after learning that residents like the brew.
"We decided to include beer in the food donation after we realised they like beer," he was quoted by the Standard.
Despite the calm and order that was witnessed during the initial stages of the exercise, it immediately turned into a scuffle immediately after Ke's team and area lawmaker William Kamket left.
The locals took the opportunity to scramble for the beer, with the youth taking the centre stage as the elderly watched from the sidelines.
Three hundred bags of maize were also shared among the residents.
Kamket called upon locals to begin preparing their farms since the rains are about to begin.
