The incident happened on Saturday in Magombo, Manga in Nyamira County.

It is alleged that the victim identified as, Moraa aged 16 years, was returning home from a local church when she touched the hanging electricity wires with her bare hands.

"Moraa touched the wires thinking she was touching a cloth hanger when she was hit by the shock. She screamed for help and neighbors rushed her to Roman hospital where she is fighting for her life as her parents were away from home," said area Nyumba Kumi chairman Raphael Onditi.

Mr Onditi protested that electricity cables in the area are loosely hanging, something he said could lead to more unnecessary deaths.

He called on Kenya power officials to move with speed to ensure the carelessly hanging wires are tightened to curb unnecessary deaths.

Nyamira OCPD Lilis Wachira appealed to residents to be careful not to touch electric wires with their bare hands.

"It is by the Grace of God the victim survived the electric shock. She is responding well to medication," said Wachira.
