Opposition leader Raila Odinga remains the most celebrated politician in some parts of the nation, especially his Luo Nyanza bedrock.
As a result of his tight grip in the region, he has brought himself out as the main man and a man whose backing one must have to win a political seat in Nyanza.
Though a good impression because the region remains a single block and votes in whole behind him during elections, it also has a number of negative effects.
One of these is the enhancement of laziness among area leaders, some of whom lay back and do close to nothing knowing that they will ultimately bounce back.
Most of these are the most vocal ones who know that the people will always vote with their hearts and support them because of their closeness to the former Prime Minister.
Consequently, they see no need to engage in any work aimed at bettering the lives of Kenyans and their constituents knowing that their reelection is almost guaranteed.
The very same group spends most of its time in press conferences and political gatherings fighting forces opposed to Raila in the name of defending him.
This can always be seen when rival camps bash the former Prime Minister and there is always a full team at hand to respond, while their constituencies remain behind.
Therefore, wouldn't it be right to say that the region would be more developed if elected leaders paid more attention to their constituents?
