The CJ said his love for the bottle was a little bit too much that he often spent many hours of the night in booze dens sampling the popular shots.

This saw him get home in the wee hours of the night.

I would go home at 3am and ask for dinner. My wife would ask me if it was really dinner or breakfast I was asking for,” Maraga said amid laughter from the crowd.

The CJ was at the varsity to preside over JKUAT’s Drug Awareness Sabbath.

He pleaded with comrades who are stuck into alcoholism among other drug addiction to give their lives to Christ to help fight the addiction.

“I went back for masters 34 years later after my undergraduate. I would not have been Chief Justice if I had not given my life to Jesus Christ,” he said.

The apex court’s president said his life with the bottle started way back in high school and became worse when he joined campus.

After leaving the university and Kenya School of Law, he got admitted to the bar and joined a bad company, again!

Peer pressure made him sunk deeper into alcoholism, he said.
