Oparanya floored five hopefuls to assume the post from his Turkana Counterpart Josephat Nanok.

Oparanya, who has hinted at contesting for the Presidency in 2022, is serving his second and last term in office.

The former senator, who has thrown his weight behind Deputy President William Ruto, took to social media to share the message to Oparanya.

“Congratulations @GovWOparanya for your new position as the chairman of the CoG,” he wrote moments after the county boss was declared the winner of the contest.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o, his Kirinyaga partner Anne Waiguru, and three other county bosses were in the race to take over from Nanok.  The others were Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu) and Salim Mvurya ( Kwale County)

Oparanya's performance scoreboard has been a noteworthy feature in the devolution examples of overcoming adversity from the minute Kakamega played host to the fifth devolution conference.

County bosses and other leaders have been touring the region to benchmark since he took over office. Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria will currently assume control as the CoG Vice Chair from Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru.
