A madman was hacked to death by his neighbor on suspicion of being a thief.
The incident happened on Monday night in Nyakeya village, South Mugirango Kisii County.
The deceased identified as Oroo was suffering from mental disorder which makes him loiter the village at night.
Witnesses said Oroo had gone to his neighbor’s house on Monday at around midnight and went straight to a cowshed and the dogs started barking prompting the owner to pick an axe which he used to hit Oroo and killed him instantly.
“Oroo has a mental problem and he kept on going round the village even at night. He met his death when he went to his neighbor’s homestead at night,” said area assistant chief David Kobingi.
Kobingi said the homestead owner realised that it was Oroo after he had already killed him.
Kobingi said the body of the madman was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary.
