African Union envoy for infrastructure Raila Odinga has faulted media houses for misreporting about his trip alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta to China.
Speaking on the China trip in detail during his tour in Kisumu on Monday, Raila said rumours that the Kenyan government was denied funds to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) were baseless and ill-motivated.
The ODM leader insisted that the trip to China entailed other things and not the loan as speculated.
He made the revelation as he inspected the Sh3 billion industrial park in Muhoroni, which the government plans to use to woo China to invest more funds in Kenya before Uhuru leaves power.
Raila said that the SGR project is not dead and the government has good plans for the resident of the region as opposed to the speculation doing rounds on social media and other communication platforms.
The former Prime Minister asked the media not to spread propaganda on the same issue.
"Media has been awash with biased reports that we failed to secure the SGR loan, which is very negative, false and unfair," Raila was quoted by the Standard.
He also said that the region is privileged to have the investment and it could be diverted to another region if the resident do not support the same.
Statehouse Spokesperson Kanze Dena had earlier on dismissed the claims as well. She spoke during an interview on Radio Maisha on Monday.
"I am shocked that people say they haven't seen the President since he left China, yet on 3rd of this month he had a meeting with executives from Global Fund and there was a Statement about it," the State House tweeted.
