In Kenya, there are laws and regulations in different sectors. The police sector has its laws governing it and anybody who breaks them is answerable.
Recently, there were two disturbing videos of civilians fighting police officers in broad daylight.
The first video was of a Nakuru tuk tuk driver, popularly known as “Ninja.” The video can clearly show Ninja engaging two police officers in running battles by hurling stones at them.
The second video was of a solo man who was wrestling an armed police officer. The policeman had an Ak47 rifle hanging from his shoulder.
These are not the only cases of civilians fighting the police. However, do you know the punishment that awaits you if you are caught assaulting a police officer?
According to the National Police Service Act, Section 103 (a), No. 11 (A) of 2011, if you are convicted for assaulting a police officer, you will be fined not more one million shillings or imprisoned for not more than ten years, or both.
“Offences related to the assault of police can attract a fine not exceeding 1 million shillings, imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or to both," reads a section of the act.
