There was drama on Thursday in Nyamaiya village, West Mugirango in Nyamira County after a woman was beaten and stripped naked by her father-in-law.
Trouble started when Agnes Mbera returned from Sang'anyi area where she lives with her husband to cultivate a piece of land early in the morning before her father-in-law Onderi Ogega chased her away.
"Mbera arrived at her husband's home with a Jembe ready to cultivate a piece of land when Ogega turned her away. Defiant Mbera refused to stop cultivating the land prompting Ogega to descend on her with kicks and blows," said Alfred Machoni, a neighbour.
Mr Machoni said members of the public were attracted by the woman's screams.
"The public rushed to the homestead and found Mbera naked lying on bare ground in pain. Ogega was no where to be seen," said Machoni.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba condemned the man saying he must be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Mariba said the victim sustained injuries on her forehead and she was rushed to Nyamira Hospital for treatment.
He assured that the suspect is being traced by police to be arrested and be charged over assault.
