16 pupils from Uasin Gishu have benefited from the Equity Bank wings to fly scholarship.
Speaking during the flagging off ceremony of the beneficiaries on Tuesday, Equity Bank Eldoret branch manager Lorna Rotich said they received 504 applications and only managed to take 16 pupils.
"The selection process was so vigorous because we were looking for needy students who have achieved a minimum of 350 marks and come from needy background," said the manager.
She noted that most of the beneficiaries are orphans and their situation is pathetic.
"The selection board was very instrumental because they managed to seek for interviews, we also did home to home interviews to verify," she added.
Rotich urged other institutions to come out and help other bright and needy students who cannot continue with their education due to financial constraints.
This year's scholars brings the total number of Wings to Fly beneficiaries from the County to 280 since its inception.
In addition to school tuition fees, the scholars are provided with books, uniforms, transport and pocket money, in a bid to create an environment that will enable them excel academically.
Debra Chelagat, one of the beneficiaries who scored 398 marks, thanked the Equity Bank wings to fly for according her the scholarship since it was hard for her to pursue her education since she comes from a poor background.
