Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi forms the short list of leaders who have announced their presidential bid for the 2022 general elections.
He will be seeking to get among others, the support of the vote-rich Rift Valley region if he is to realize his dream.
It is worth noting that Mudavadi is the most likely candidate who is a non-Rift Valley native to run away with a sizeable chunk of the Kalenjin votes in the race, thanks to his docile nature.
The ANC leader is known for his soft and cautious politicking and has not on any occasion been quoted insulting the region's leadership, making him an easy sell in the area.
His first trick should be to avoid picking direct wars with the region's leadership and stop his recent attacks on Deputy President William Ruto whose integrity he has been questioning lately.
This added to a few campaign sessions in the region, will enable him to take over some votes, and consequently trouble Deputy President William Ruto's similar ambition.
He should also use his cleaner image to woo the region, considering that his name has not featured in any graft scandal lately, and use that as an indirect attack on DP Ruto.
The former Deputy Prime Minister is slightly cleaner as compared to Ruto who is facing many integrity questions regarding the source of his wealth.
Should he play his cards well, Mudavadi will come out the winner as it is clear that Kenyans are growing tired of corruption and are willing to vote in any direction just to eliminate graft.
Though no court has ever found DP Ruto guilty of graft-related charges, Mudavadi can easily say 'I am clean and has the moral authority to fight graft." This alone could earn him a handful of votes.
He can also maximize on the rebellion Ruto is grappling with in the region to earn more in votes, by either adopting the rebels or using the rebellion narrative to crush the DP.
By wooing the likes of Nandi Hills lawmaker Alfred Keter and his Cherangany counterpart Joshua Kuttuny to his side, Mudavadi will be assured of some votes.
His biggest trick would be to adopt Baringo Senator and Ruto's sworn rival Gideon Moi ad his runningmate to completely finish the DP off.
By so doing, he will almost be assured of the entire Baringo County vote and some from Nakuru where the Senator enjoys a good amount of backing.
And since the DP seems to be having more troubles realizing his bid courtesy of his apparently growing distance with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the region would go the Moi way for fear of losing everything once Ruto's woes intensify.
