Two suspects were on Thursday arrested by police in Nakuru County after they were found in possession of ivory.
The two, a father and his son, were found with 16 pieces of elephant tusks at a rental house in Royal estate, Nakuru.
The suspects; a 58-year-old man together with his 28-year-old son, were arrested by police following a tip-off from members of the public.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu said police officers conducted a swift operation, and nabbed the two before they sold off the ivory.
“Officers moved swiftly after receiving information from locals and fortunately, we arrested the two weighing the tusks as they waited to hand them over to an individual who was traveling from Nairobi.
“We are going through phone conversation of the suspects to arrest more individuals linked to the crime.... More investigations are on to crack ivory trade syndicate believed to be operating within different estates in Nakuru town," he said as quoted by Standard.
The police boss warned locals against poaching, adding that those found will be charged and dealt with according to the law.
