President Uhuru Kenyatta was in Kisumu briefly on Friday evening, on his way to Kakamega County where he led the Nation in marking the 54th Mashujaa Day Celebrations on Saturday.
Before then, the President officially visited Kisumu over a year ago, when he launched the construction of Sh15 billion Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) plant in Railways Ward.
The Head of State should plan to visit Kisumu in the near future, for the following reasons:
First, Kisumu residents want to see their President launch various development projects in their backyard. As it always happens when he visits any part of the country, he can order for development projects to be initiated.
Secondly, he is needed in the Lakeside County to explain to residents the meaning of the handshake he had with ODM party leader Raila Odinga on March 09, 2018.
Residents want to know their role in the handshake mathematics. They want to know whether it is just about him and Raila or it is also about them, given the fact that they overwhelmingly supported the former Prime Minister in last year’s Presidential elections.
They want to know from him, whether families who lost their loved ones and those who got injured during chaos that rocked Kisumu City, after he was declared winner of the presidential elections last year will be compensated or not.
Thirdly, Kisumu people are friendly and welcoming. The Head of State should just come and visit them. He has been seen on several occasions eating from roadside kiosks. He should come and replicate the same in Manyatta, Obunga or Kondele. He can as well visit and enjoy a boat ride at the Lwang’ni beach in Lake Victoria.
Finally, President Kenyatta should visit Kisumu and officially open the Lake Basin Mall in Mamboleo. The mall promises to be a game changer in the provision of business and employment opportunities, especially for the youth.
He should visit and officially open the gates of this amazing mall.
