Ford Kenya party will meet soon to discuss the conduct of Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba following his decision to endorse DP William Ruto's presidential ambitions, Tongaren MP Eseli Simuyi has said.
Over the weekend, Khaemba became the second high profile Ford Kenya leader to join Ruto's camp, after an unexpected move by the party's Deputy leader Boni Khalwale.
“I was not in Jubilee. I belong to a house that is now full of smoke. I have weighed my options ... though I have a bald head, I have a sharp brain.
I asked myself whether I should continue living in a house full of smoke or build another house. We, the 14 governors in Rift Valley, have agreed to work together this time," he said after endorsing Ruto.
Before Khalwale's decision to quit Ford Kenya, the party's disciplinary boss Ferdinand Wanyonyi had summoned him for grilling and had been accused of defying the party's constitution.
Dr Simiyu took issue with the DP’s 'poaching' of politicians from other parties, saying he entices them with government projects.
“It is wrong for someone of the DP’s stature to promote this kind of lawlessness. This is an attempt to break other political parties through poaching of members with the intention of jeopardising their political careers," he said.
DP Ruto is reaching out to various leaders as he assembles machinery for 2022 presidential race as several MPs and senators across Kenya see him as apparent heir to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Governor Khaemba now faces a tough battle, that would even see the party deleting his name from the register, a move that could trigger a by-election in Trans Nzoia.
