A clique of powerful individuals within the political class and in government helped TV journalist Jacque Maribe get bail in a murder charge she is facing.
Maribe and her lover Joseph Irungu alias Jowie have been behind bars for up to a month after they were arrested over the murder of Monica Kimani in her Kilimani house.
On Tuesday, October 30, the two were before high court judge justice James Wakiaga for a bail hearing.
Wakiaga granted Maribe bail as he denied her lover the same.
It has now emerged that Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is among those who influenced the judge to grant the embattled TV star bail.
“She is a well-known media personality with influential friends as confirmed by a letter attached to her affidavit from the Senator for Nairobi,” Wakiaga said.
MP Moses Kuria, Jubilee’s social media warrior Dennis Itumbi, Sabina Chege, and Irungu Kang’ata were also seen in court during the hearing of the bail application.
Justice Wakiaga, in his ruling, also noted that Maribe is a character with influential connections and would therefore not jump bail.
For Nakuru born choir boy Irungu aka Jowie, lack of a house, his love for guns and connections in the Middle East painted him as somebody who would intimidate witnesses as well as a flight risk.
His mother, who was in court during the bail hearing had to be escorted out after she broke down the moment she had her son will stay behind bars during his trial.
At Jowie's Lanet home in Nakuru, quietness rent the air. Only a dog was heard barking behind the high perimeter fence.
