Kenyans are reacting differently after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party urged concerned agencies to demolish Deputy President William Ruto's Weston Hotel and hand the land back to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.
Through its secretary general Edwin Sifuna, the party has said Weston Hotel like other illegal buildings in Nairobi should not be spared, adding that the land should be given back to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority immediately……..
Addressing the press this afternoon, Mr. Sifuna said DP Ruto's Weston Hotel should be handled in equal measures with Air-Gate Centre and other multi-billions buildings that were pulled down within Nairobi.
"We (ODM) want to support other leaders who have said all corrupt individuals should be dealt with in equal measures. If you are corrupt, you have mishandled public property, you have grabbed public land, you have erected building on public lands, just like other building that had been constructed on public land or riparian land were demolished, so should be the Weston Hotel," said Sifuna.
ODM also expressed its disappointments with the National Land Commission which had earlier investigated the acquisition of Weston Hotel land and ordered that the the latter be compensated another piece of land, ruling out demolition of the Five Star Hotel.
Sifuna said there was no any other piece of land within the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority that can handed over to them to serve the same purpose as the Weston Hotel land.
The order by ODM has so far elicited the following mixed reactions from Kenyans:
