“The budget has not yet been read and there are a lot of more important issues to talk about other than the referendum issue, besides the building bridges initiative still needs more time to complete its task and I think hon. Raila should stop misleading Kenyans because this is not the appropriate time for politics,” said Mutura.

Mutura, who was speaking live on Radio Jambo early Saturday morning, pointed out that Raila’s sentiments recently that the time for change is now or never are absolutely impunity and revolve under selfish interests.

He outlined that amending the constitution with the objective of creating more positions won’t help Kenyans.

“Let us focus on the big four agenda and other important development programs, Raila should be on the forefront embracing the handshake and must avoid misleading Kenyans on the referendum issue, the referendum cannot happen now or soon because it needs time for all the stakeholders to come together and the process should involve all Kenyans, it is not supposed to be a deal of two people with selfish interests. There is no referendum law in Kenya,” he added.

Hon. Mutura insisted that there are a lot of important issues that the country should address and there is no money for a referendum.

“I respect Hon. Raila but he should not bring more politics in the quest for a referendum”, he added.

Hon.Mutura also noted that Kenya needs an opposition leader who will be frequently putting the government on the spot check.

He finished by saying that a referendum is needed but it should be done at the right time within the proper framework.
