For the second time, Raila Odinga's team could feel threatened following Monday's events at Migori, a county that has traditionally backed ODM.
Deputy President William Ruto storms Migori as court condemned Governor Okoth Obado emerged after days of absence from the public.
Along the roads in Suna East and Masara in Muhuru Bay, thousands lined up with placards backing Ruto's ticket with Governor Okoth Obado.
It read: "Ruto president, Zachary Obado Deputy President, God will make it real."
Since his election as Governor in 2013, Obado has been walking of tight ropes, managing to beat an ODM candidate before decamping PDP for ODM in 2017.
But his harmony with the party was dismantled when he publicly oppossed direct nomination of Ochillo Ayacko as the party's flag bearer for Migori senatorial by-election.
And this attracted strong reaction from Orange House with party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna warning of unspecified actions against him.
"Ayacko is the party's choice. If you don't support him, we have nothing to do with you. We shall deal with you," he wrote.
Last month, Ayacko struggled to beat Eddy Oketch, a candidate believed to have been sponsored by Obado and Mr Ruto.
And Monday's partnership between Ruto and Obado could yet again ignite paradigm shift in geopolitics for a region that has traditionally backed Mr Odinga.
