The 2022 Kisumu gubernatorial race is promising to be an interesting one at it has always been.
A good number of aspirants are likely to show up in the next few months, all with an aim of making Governor Anyang' Nyong'o a one term governor.
However, here are the three area politicians who are very likely to unseat the governor.
1. Ruth Odinga
The former Kisumu Deputy Governor is now serving as the Director of Special Programmes in Nyong'o's leadership, but could be a major problem should she vie come 2022.
Her candidature cannot be ruled out, considering that she vied for the ODM ticket for the race before losing to former Governor Jack Ranguma in 2013.
The two later joined hands in the general elections in a mediated team up.
The latter is a sister to opposition leader Raila Odinga who enjoys close to absolute support in Kisumu and the entire Nyanza region, meaning that Ruth's bid is a danger to Nyong'o.
Also, she previously served as the Deputy Governor and most probably has her own connections which could better her winning chances, making her a person to watch.
2. Olago Aluoch
The renowned lawyer is one of the few MPs in the entire Nyanza region who won their seats on a party different from ODM.
His ability to beat ODM candidates in the ODM stronghold suggests that he is an adored and most likely development oriented leader, and is proof that he can pull a clever one on Nyong'o.
This added to his experience makes him more dangerous and likely to humiliate the county boss come 2022.
3. Fred Outa
The Kisumu Senator is one of the most vocal politicians in the region, which has in exchange ranked him among the most popular within the county.
Also a sworn ally of Odinga, in the instance that both Ruth and Olago don't vie, then he could cause problems or even beat the county boss in the race.
Most of his popularity comes from his controversial mode of politicking, and once stormed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clerk training center in Kisumu.
This was in the run up to the October 26, 2017 presidential rerun, after Raila called upon his supporters to keep off the elections. Outa was arrested alongside Ruth Odinga.
