In an interview on Wednesday, the Bungoma Senator said that he is not in any talks with the DP whom he has noted he will challenge for the top seat when the time comes.

He added that even if he were to reach out to the DP, he would not need to do it secretly as Kenya is a democratic republic where everybody is at will to consult and negotiate.

"I am not meeting Ruto at all. I do not need to do it at night also because at the end of the day it shall come to light. I am a leader like him and I am not ashamed to reach out to him should there be need," he said.

However, he did not rule out chances of working with the DP going forward, but noted that their union or continued rivalry will depend on the appearance of the political landscape.

"I cannot rule out chances of working with him. Such decisions will be made at the right time and will depend on my ability to clinch the seat. If I will find myself unable then I could join any team which I share ideologies with," he added.

Wetangula is however expected to face a lot of challenges realizing his bid. considering that he is facing opposition right from home courtesy of the numerous Luhya presidential hopefuls.

So far, his Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart Musalia Mudavadi has also hinted at running for the top seat.

Also expected to be in the race is Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who doubles up as a close ally to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
