Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has what it takes to win in the much anticipated Kibra parliamentary by-election.
Speaking on Monday, the ODM senator noted that the party had an upper hand in the race, which has also attracted the Amani National Congress (ANC) and the ruling Jubilee party.
However, he warned that ODM still stands a chance of losing, advising that it's win depend on the person picked from the many hopefuls eyeing the ticket, to fly its flag.
He therefore called for proper nominations, saying that its only through an acceptable candidate that ODM will retain the seat previously occupied by the late Ken Okoth.
"I can say, with a lot of certainty, that ODM has an upper hand and shall carry the day in Kibra if we do our nominations properly and present a candidate who is acceptable to the people. I am hoping ODM is putting in place mechanisms to do proper nominations," he said on Citizen TV's DayBreak.
On the other hand, Thirdway Alliance party reiterated its initial stand that it will not front a candidate, with its chair Miruru Waweru saying that they are busy with their referendum push.
"We may not comment on Kibra by-election because we have decided not to field a candidate; we are busy with our ‘Punguza Mizigo’ campaign and we cannot continue preaching water and drinking wine," said Waweru.
ODM has since approved 11 candidates who are expected to battle it out for the ticket, among them reggae deejay Kriss Darlin and Okoth's brother Imran Okoth.
On the other hand, ANC has given former ODM member and ex-Kibra hopeful Eliud Owalo a direct ticket to go for the seat.
