United Green Movement Party’s Malasen Hamida is among the 10 candidates that IEBC has cleared for Kibra parliamentary by-election.
The deadline for submission of candidates who will participate in the is Tuesday.
Hamida presented her papers to IEBC accompanied by UGM party members of National Executive Council, Secretariat and members of Team Hamida.
Addressing media in Nairobi after her clearance, the ‘Mama Mazingira’ as she is well known in the public for her continued advocacy on matters environment conservation, water and sanitation, youth and governance said she is up to the task.
“The journey has begun and I believe I am up to the task of representing the people of Kibra towards continued development,” said Hamida.
The sentiments were echoed by UGM National Coordinator Grassroot Democracy Erick Ogada who said the Party is determined to clinch the seat and ensure development agenda for the people of Kibra.
According to Ogada, UGM party aims to bring change in the political arena through its principles and values which include; grass-root democracy, ecological wisdom, social justice and equal opportunity, community-based economics, non-violence, feminism, and respect for diversity.
Jubilee’s candidate McDonald Mariga is expected to present his papers Tuesday as ODM’s flag bearer Imran Okoth awaits a determination of a petition filed by William Orero challenging his win in party primaries held on Saturday.
Orero has alleged that the exercise was not free and fair.
The Kibra Parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer on July 26.
The by-election is slated for November 7.
