Even though many people may vie for the seat, some will remain to be other candidates' 'escorters'.

In this case, Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau will have to walk on a tightrope to convince the electorates to consider her for the top seat.

A section of the Makueni residents has criticized Mwau's idea of contesting for the seat a few days after she declared her interest.

First, she would have served as a deputy governor for ten good years.

The locals think she should be content with the position for a decade and retire gracefully.

This is due to the fact that there is no change she can bring to the county which she couldn't have pushed for as the deputy governor.

Mwau has a good working relationship with Governor Kivutha Kibwana which should translate to achieving the development she dreamed of.

Secondly, she hasn't created a rapport with the electorate enough to spring her to the governorship.

So far, only three leaders have declared their interests to succeed Kibwana in 2022 polls.

They include Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Kibwezi East MP Patrick Musimba and deputy governor Adelina Mwau.

But it's still early, more are expected to come out since the incumbent won't be defending the seat after completing his two terms in office.
