Elachi was impeached a week ago by 103 MCAs who voted against her, two voted in her support while two others abstained over alleged gross misconduct and causing 'great embarrassment' to the county assembly.

The ouster motion was moved by Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu on Thursday last week.

"Her actions and omissions have caused embarrassment and brought the office of the speaker into disrepute," he said.

However, while speaking in Likoni, the women leaders led by Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Rachel Shebesh, Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda, and Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi accused the MCAs of being driven by ill motives to frustrate Elachi.

Speaking when they Likoni MP Mishi Mboko in launching Huduma Mashinani programme in Likoni, the women leaders said they would stand with one of their own and will not support any form of intimidation against women leaders.

"As women leaders, we also expressed our unequivocal support for Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi in the ongoing tussle with Nairobi MCAs who are seeking to remove her from office," said Gedi.

"We reiterate that the MCAs are driven by ill motives to frustrate her," she added.

The Huduma Mashinani programme seeks to bring government services closer to the people.
