Renowned economist David Ndii has named projects initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration that are at risk of collapsing ahead of the 2022 polls.

Ndii identified the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the ongoing Huduma Namba registration, the Big Four Agenda, and the new education curriculum as ill-considered projects about to fail.

"Short list of hare-brained projects that will not survive Uhuruto 'Tano Terror': SGR white elephant, Huduma Namba, Big Four and New curriculum," he said on Friday.

The Jubilee government initiated the SGR immediately after it took over power in 2013, and so far it is the country's most expensive infrastructure project since independence.

Already, Sh477 billion has been used to construct the Mombasa-Nairobi railway line and the Nairobi-Naivasha stretch which is expected to be complete by August.

Plans to extend the SGR to Kisumu were recently canceled after China reportedly denied to advance an additional of Sh350 billion loan to finance the project.

The government announced it will connect the old metre-gauge line with the SGR at Naivasha to ensure cargo reach the lakeside city through train.

However, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia on Wednesday said the State will repair the Naivasha-Malaba railway line through public-private partnership (PPP) since the Kisumu route would be 'too costly'.

In a tweet on Friday, the economist mocked Uhuru's administration over the sudden change of position.

"From Sh. 350b SGR to Kisumu (oops) to Sh.40b upgrade of old rail to Kisumu (oops) to Sh.21b PPP upgrade of Naivasha-Eld-Malaba all in a matter of weeks. Is this a railway project or a chicken coop?" Ndii posted.
