What began as a joke at Soy market centre has now turned serious after a man who claimed he wanted to marry Malia Obama sold his land to go meet former United States' President Barack Obama.
According to traders and bodaboda operators at in the area, the man, Lapas Erupe is obsessed with Obama's elder daughter and he was constantly talking about how he wanted to marry her.
"Erupe is foolishly obsessed with the idea of marrying Malia Obama. He just can't get his mind off it no matter how hard we try to convince him that it is impossible," Rodgers Kipruto, Erupe's neighbour said.
Some of the close relatives however revealed that Erupe has mental problem which may be the cause of all that obsession.
"There was a time we took him to the hospital and the doctor told us he had mental problems. We could not afford the cost of the treatment so we just brought him back," noted Judice Cheruto, the mans' sister.
The matter however got out of hand after it was realized Erupe had sold part of the family land that was allocated to him so as to go 'meet' Obama.
Those who saw him a few hours before he boarded a vehicle said he was constantly talking about how he was finally going to marry Obama's daughter.
"He was busy saying how he was finally going to marry the girl of his dream. At that time we did not understand what was going on, but after we realized that he had sold his land, that is when we knew he was travelling," a neighbour said.
Those who have known Erupe for a long time say that he usually goes and comes back and have confidence that he will back just after a few days as he always does.
