Korane says that county governments need more funding to actualise development projects and render services to Kenyans.

Speaking in Garissa Town on Thursday, the Jubilee governor, however, faulted the COG move to support referendum push.

He said that more allocation to counties can be done without necessarily going to a referendum.

“It is not a must for a referendum to have allocation to counties increased,” he said.

Korane warned that 'strange' people are likely to ride on COG’s move to support referendum in push for their own interests.

The Garissa governor is among North Eastern leaders who have rejected the push to amend the 2010 constitution.

Governor Korane and other Northern leaders claim that the push to amend the law is aimed at curtailing devolution.

The leaders are alleging plot to have the number of counties in North Eastern region reduced or merged.

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has also opposed push to amend the 2010 constitution.

On Thursday, COG backed the referendum push on grounds that it should be about increasing allocation to counties.
