Kisii court on Thursday morning slapped a middle-aged man with two years jail term after he was found guilty of stealing a wheelbarrow from a construction site where he was working.
Erick Nyairo met the cruel sentence after he pleaded guilty before Senior Resident Magistrate Ezekiel Obina for stealing the wheelbarrow belonging to Julius Onyonka from Kerina area in Kisii South Sub County on 6th August.
Nyairo defended himself saying he had kept the wheelbarrow safe for the owner despite the fact that he had not informed him but the prosecutor dismissed his claims saying the wheelbarrow went missing for three weeks before it was found in his house.
Magistrate Ezekiel Obina said the evidence tabled before the court clearly showed that Nyairo committed the offense intentionally and there was no reason for him to be set free.
The area Chief Joseph Mosumari together with police officers led by Julius Kemboi who were conducting investigations presented item before the court to prove that indeed Nyairo stole the wheelbarrow.
Nyairo was, however, was given two weeks to file for an appeal.
